Jezmina Von Thiele (Vawn-TEE-lah) (they/she) is tarot, palm, and tea leaf reader of mixed Sinti Romani heritage. Raised in their family’s survival trade fortune telling tradition, cultural education and activism is a key element of Jezmina's work, particularly when the Romani diaspora has contributed so much to popular divination, but Romani culture is denigrated, erased, or appropriated by the mainstream culture, and Romani people still face global oppression world-wide. Jezmina was taught divination by their grandmother, who was taught by her grandmother, and so on. Their family practice survived centuries of migration from India and the Holocaust in Europe.

In addition to offering divination session to private clients and brands, Jezmina teaches workshops on divination, spirituality, Romani culture, and creative arts, and performs speaking events. across the U.S.

Jezmina is co-author of Secrets of Romani Fortune Telling  (Weiser Books, 2024) and co-host of the Romanistan podcast with Paulina Stevens. Secrets of Romani Tarot (Weiser Books, 2027), and Romanistan Tarot Deck (Weiser Books, 2028). Their poetry, fiction, and nonfiction appears in a number of publications, including Prairie Schooner, The Kenyon Review Online, The Poetry Foundation, and Narrative Magazine. Jezmina is also the author of Monster More Alive (Lambhouse, 2026), a poetry collection.

Who Are Roma/ Romani People?

Roma are a diasporic ethnic group originally from India, known by the slur/misnomer G*psies, a word Roma and related groups can reclaim it but non-Roma CANNOT. The Romani people are NOT Romanian or Roman. Due to centuries of persecution, Roma have developed a number of survival trades, and fortune telling is om is just one of many.
